Rules of Play
- 6 players per team are on the court at the start of each game.
- Matches are best 3 out of 5 games.
- The season is eight weeks long.
- Matches are played on the SportsPlex Turf Field, which is 70'x35'.
- Six balls are used during play.
- Prior to the match, the referees will conduct a coin toss with both team captains to determine choice of ends.
- Players then take a position behind their endline. After a signal by the official, teams approach the centerlines to retrieve the balls.
- Balls must be taken back across the endlines before they can be thrown at an opposing player. If the ball is not taken behind the endline before it is thrown, the throw will not count.
- Players then attempt to eliminate members of the opposing team by hitting them with the ball. If a player is hit with any ball that has not yet touched the floor, that player is “out”.
- Play continues until one team is eliminated. At that point, the referee calls time and awards the winning team one point for each remaining player.
- The balls are then reset on the centerline and play resumes when the whistle is blown.
- When time runs out (at the half and at the end of the match) both teams are awarded points for all remaining players.
- The team with the most points when time expires wins the match.
- Uniforms are considered part of a player's body.
- Any ball that touches the ceiling, nets or wall is a dead ball.
- If a defender catches a “live” thrown ball the thrower is out and one player then returns to the defenders side in order of first out, first in.
- If a defender attempts to catch a live ball, but drops it, the defender is out.
- The defender may block a live ball with another ball. That ball is still a live ball however, until it hits the floor, wall, nets or ceiling.
- If a blocking ball is dropped as a result of contact from a live ball, then the player who drops the ball is out.
- A player may block a live ball, then throw the blocking ball down and catch a live ball.
- A player shall not leave the playing field to avoid being hit or in an attempt to catch a ball.
- Players who have been called out may retrieve stray balls for their teammates.
- It is illegal for the leading team to control all the balls for more then 5 seconds. (A violation will result in the referee stopping play and the balls will be divided evenly.)
- Headshots resulting from a high thrown ball, result in the thrower being called out.
- A player hit in the head while ducking or dodging is out.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in immediate ejection from the game.
